Pajamas and Jam Eatery, located in Strand, just outside Cape Town, South Africa, is truly a one of a kind place. From the moment you walk through the doors, you are welcomed by their friendly staff, ready to show you to your seat. You might not always get a table at first as they tend to be very popular, especially over the weekend, but you are able to book a table in advance. As you arrive at the location, you will not miss the old helicopter on the outside of the building. There are a few parking bays available in front of the eatery.

The entire ambience of the place is so relaxing, their French background music brought some nostalgia to me, and for a moment I thought I was in a French patisserie in Paris.

They have a wide variety of drink options available, from different teas and coffees to smoothies. I decided to go for a caffeine boost and ordered a cappuccino with almond milk, after the waiter left I thought to myself, “Why did I order it with almond milk, as 99% of the places screw this up.” The cappuccino arrived, and it was perfect. I asked twice if this was almond milk as it looked like a perfect cappuccino. The barista has some serious coffee making skills.

They had a good variety on their lunch menu, the item that grabbed my attention was the meal of the day. The butter chicken.

While waiting for the food, I took a stroll through their collection of treasures scattered all over, and most of them for sale I might add. Some of these items included trophies that at some point were someone’s pride and joy, old golf clubs, glass bottles, in general a big mix of funky antique ornaments. They also have a deli section with food items for sale; I love their sour cherry and coconut salt.

The food arrived, and it was plated beautifully. The butter chicken was served with toasted pita and cucumber raita on the side. The ingredients complimented each other very well. The only critique I had was that the butter chicken could have been a little bit more spicy (and generally I am not a big fan of spicy food), but it was still delicious.

They had an amazing variety of cakes. Each cake named as a different lady, which I thought was quite unique. Some of the cakes included “Lady Bubble Dot” (Chocolate Cake), “Lady Coco” (Buttermilk Chocolate Cake), “Lady Carmilla” (Caramel Cheese Cake), “Lady Coppergold” (Carrot Cake), “Lady Fig” (Honey and Polenta Cake with Fig and Thyme Syrup) and “Lady Clemence” (Lemon Meringue).

Pajamas and Jam Eatery is a unique place worth a visit. Their prices are reasonable, food is good, and the atmosphere is great. If you feel like a quick bite or some delicious cake with a friend, this is the spot. Pajamas and Jam Eatery you get the DBM splash of approval.
