Marching On

“Marching On” was inspired by a photograph I took at the Acropolis of Athens. It was the changing of the guard, and I captured the moment where the one guard just ended his shift. He had a sense of calmness about him, but you could also see that he had great pride in what he was doing and I wanted to capture that in my art.

I used acrylic paint with a monochrome colour scheme for the portrait and for contrast in the background I used recycled ginger ale cans. The green and yellow from the cans gave me a sense of military presence and the triangle shapes are like stars that represent the ranks of the soldiers.
